LASU GOVERNING COUNCIL WRAPS UP CAMPUS TOUR IN EPE, PROMISES STRATEGIC REFORMS AND VISIBLE PROGRESS
The 13th Governing Council of Lagos State University (LASU) has concluded its tour of the university’s campuses with a final visit to the Epe Campus on Thursday, 26th March 2026, demonstrating its resolve to drive strategic reforms and measurable progress across the institution.
The team, which had earlier visited Ojo, Badagry and Ikeja campuses, converged at the Olatunji Bello Auditorium in Epe, where the Head of Campus, Prof. Elkanah O. Oyetunji, formally welcomed members of the Governing Council, University Management and other stakeholders.
In his address, Prof. Oyetunji highlighted several interventions and transformative developments by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, that have contributed to the growth of the Epe Campus, noting that these efforts have positively impacted both staff and students. However, he emphasised the need for further support and investment to make the campus more conducive and beneficial for its community.
Speaking during the visit, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Mr Babatunde Ogala, SAN, CON, commended the campus leadership for its progress. He explained that the purpose of the tour was to assess facilities, identify areas requiring intervention and ensure that necessary improvements are made. He assured stakeholders that all observations would be critically reviewed and addressed.
The Council thereafter embarked on an inspection of key facilities, including the Phase II perimeter fencing, the School of Agriculture farm and the 350-seater CBT centre currently under construction. The team also visited student hostels, the Oba Kamorudeen Animashaun Hall under construction and the boundary area between the university and the military installation.
It is expected that the outcome of this tour, alongside the blueprint being developed by the Governing Council, will lead to policies and strategic actions that will significantly elevate the university. In the coming months, these efforts are anticipated to yield visible improvements across LASU campuses.
Following the inspection, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to the palace of the Alara of Ilara-Epe, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, who is also the 6th Chancellor of the University.
At the palace, Mr Ogala described the Chancellor as a “partner in progress” and a visionary leader. He noted that the Council had developed a blueprint that would guide the future direction of the University and would be shared with the Chancellor. He further stressed that the Chancellor’s appointment was timely and significant, particularly for the development of the Epe Campus.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, expressed her anticipation of the Chancellor’s investiture and affirmed her alignment with the Council’s vision. She also conveyed confidence in the valuable contributions the Chancellor would bring to the institution.
In his response, the Chancellor appreciated the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his appointment, noting that it is a great honour to serve as the first royal father to hold the position in the University. He pledged his commitment to the development of all LASU campuses, not just Epe, and assured the gathering that the University would attain greater heights under his watch.
He also commended past Vice-Chancellors and Chancellors for their roles in positioning LASU as the most sought-after university in Nigeria.
Highlighting his personal experience, he praised the institution’s digital advancement, recalling how he was able to attend classes and complete examinations online during his doctoral studies even while he was miles outside the country.
The royal father concluded his address with heartfelt prayers for the university community and its continued progress. He later hosted members of the Governing Council, Management and other stakeholders at a warm reception at his residence.
