On Tuesday, 13th October 2026, a delegation from the Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development (CESSED), LASU, the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, and the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi BADEJO, FCASSON, FAPROCON, MNAE, to discuss the University’s support for the forthcoming 20th edition of Walk for Nature.‎‎

The programme, themed “Inspired for Climate Action,” is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 17th October 2026, at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre, LASU Main Campus, Ojo. It aims to raise environmental awareness and encourage practical action to address climate-related challenges, particularly among young people.

‎Speaking during the visit, the Director of Conservation and Ecology at the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, Mrs Tolulope ADEYO, described Walk for Nature as a longstanding environmental advocacy initiative implemented across communities in Lagos State. She explained that the partnership with CESSED was informed by the Centre’s commitment to sustainability and its role in educating students on environmental issues.

‎Mrs ADEYO noted that the initiative had placed greater emphasis on youth participation since the previous year, adding that engaging young people would strengthen environmental advocacy and extend its reach beyond the University community. She disclosed that this year’s programme would feature an advocacy walk covering approximately three to five kilometres during which participants would sensitise residents on responsible environmental practices and the need to protect their surroundings.

‎‎In her remarks, the Assistant Director of CESSED, Dr Oluwakemi TOVIDE, appreciated the University Management for receiving the delegation and solicited its support for extending the campaign to neighbouring communities. She emphasised the importance of mobilising residents to maintain clean surroundings and adopt sustainable environmental practices.‎

Responding on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin ENIKUOMEHIN, FAIMFIN, FAAAI, welcomed the delegation and affirmed the University’s readiness to collaborate with the partners on the initiative.‎‎Professor ENIKUOMEHIN noted that environmental consciousness was firmly embedded in the University’s institutional framework, citing LASU’s recognition as the best university in West Africa in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings as evidence of its commitment to sustainability. He affirmed that the initiative aligned with the University’s existing environmental sustainability efforts and assured the delegation of Management’s willingness to support the collaboration.‎‎

The 20th edition of Walk for Nature is expected to bring together dignitaries, students and residents of neighbouring communities to promote environmental responsibility and collective action on climate change.‎

Present at the meeting were the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU; the Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Mrs Aisha OLUKOYA-SHUARA; the Deputy Registrar and Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR), Mrs Oluwayemisi THOMAS-ONASHILE; the Deputy Registrar, Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Dr Taiwo MOBEE; the Director of Communications, Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), Mr Kunle OLAWOYIN; other officials of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources and NCF; and staff members of CESSED.‎‎
