VICE-CHANCELLOR, DISTINGUISHED PROFESSOR OLATUNJI-BELLO FLAGS OFF INDIGENESHIP VERIFICATION EXERCISE FOR 2026/2027 ADMISSION PROCESS
The Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi OLATUNJI-BELLO, mni, NPOM, has formally flagged off the Indigeneship Verification Exercise to commence the 2026/2027 admission process in the University. She performed the flag-off on Monday, 27th April 2026, with the inauguration of the Independent Indigeneship Verification Committee (IIVC) at the Conference Room, 6th Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
She reaffirmed the University’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and institutional integrity in the admission process, while welcoming members of the IIVC and commending their consistent dedication to a process central to the credibility of LASU’s admissions system.
Distinguished Professor OLATUNJI-BELLO emphasised that the exercise remains a critical safeguard for equity and public trust, charging the Committee to carry out its duties with professionalism, objectivity, and strict adherence to approved guidelines. She reiterated the University’s zero tolerance for any form of compromise.
She further highlighted the structured schedule of the exercise, noting that the screening exercise for candidates of Lagos State origin will be conducted in four phases. Phase 1 will hold from Monday, 27th April to Thursday, 30th April 2026, while Phase 2 is scheduled for Monday, 4th May to Thursday, 7th May 2026. Phases 3 and 4 will run from Monday, 11th May to Thursday, 14th May 2026, and Monday, 18th May to Friday, 22nd May 2026, respectively. She urged Committee members to ensure strict compliance with the schedule while maintaining efficiency and orderliness.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the IIVC, Professor Moruf ANIMASHAUN, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor for the increase in the Committee’s allowance. He urged members to maintain due process and ensure a smooth exercise, as achieved in the previous year. He also noted that over 7,000 of those admitted in the 2025/2026 academic session were Lagos State indigenes, expressing optimism that the figure would increase this year, depending on participation levels.
Speaking on behalf of the Division, Dr Mustapha AGBAGBIAKA commended the Vice-Chancellor for her visionary leadership and commitment to due process. He assured that the Committee members, drawn from all divisions in Lagos State, would work closely with the University to ensure the seamless implementation of the exercise, while maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
In a vote of thanks on behalf of the Registrar, Mr Emmanuel A. FANU, the Senior Deputy Registrar, Mr Samuel OSESANYA, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for her clear leadership and inspiration. He also commended the Committee members for their dedication and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing full support for a smooth, transparent, and hitch-free exercise.
