Dr Ibraheem Ajibola Abioye stands as a shining example of the excellence Lagos State University (LASU) continues to nurture – an accomplished physician, researcher, and global health scholar whose work now resonates on the global stage at Harvard University.

A 2008 graduate of Lagos State University College of Medicine (LASUCOM), Dr Abioye began his medical journey with a strong academic foundation that has since propelled him into the forefront of international health research. His time at LASU not only equipped him with essential clinical knowledge but also instilled in him a commitment to service, intellectual curiosity, and a passion for improving health outcomes in underserved populations.

Building on this solid foundation, Dr Abioye advanced his training and research career, earning a PhD and gaining recognition for his contributions to public health and epidemiology. He is currently affiliated with the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he works as a researcher in the Department of Global Health and Population. At Harvard, one of the world’s leading institutions, he is actively engaged in cutting-edge research addressing critical global health challenges.

Dr Abioye’s research focuses on key areas such as maternal and child health, nutrition, infectious diseases, and health systems strengthening. He is particularly known for his work on micronutrient deficiencies and their impact on vulnerable populations, including pregnant women and individuals living with HIV. Through rigorous methodologies such as systematic reviews and meta-analyses, he has contributed to evidence-based solutions that inform both policy and practice globally.

In addition to his work in nutrition and infectious diseases, Dr Abioye has also contributed to important research on mental health in Nigeria, helping to shed light on issues such as suicidal behaviour and access to care. His research outputs have been published in reputable international journals, reflecting both the depth and impact of his scholarship.

Despite his global accomplishments, Dr Abioye’s roots remain firmly connected to LASU. His journey from the lecture halls of LASUCOM to the research corridors of Harvard serves as a powerful inspiration to current students and fellow alumni. It underscores the university’s role in producing graduates who are not only locally relevant but globally competitive.

Dr Abioye exemplifies the LASU spirit, resilient, excellent, and forward-thinking. As he continues to contribute to groundbreaking research and global health advancement at Harvard, he remains a proud ambassador of Lagos State University, demonstrating that with dedication and a strong educational foundation, LASU graduates can excel on the world stage.
