In a strategic move to nurture academic excellence and guide young minds towards purposeful futures, the Lagos State University Directorate of Advancement (LASUDA) on Wednesday, 18th March 2026, held another session of its impactful Educational Outreach Programme at Badagry Grammar School, reinforcing its commitment to early academic mentoring under the theme “Catch Them Early.”

In his opening remarks, the Director of LASUDA, Professor Rafiu Okuneye, underscored the importance of exposing students to structured guidance at an early stage. He appreciated the presence of participating schools and the warm hospitality of the host school – Badagry Grammar School – and its Principal, Mrs A. A. Ojora.

He further highlighted the University’s commitment to bridging the gap between secondary and tertiary education, noting that timely exposure to opportunities and direction can significantly influence students’ career paths and life choices. He added that informed decision-making, discipline, and clarity of purpose are critical in shaping successful academic and career trajectories, stressing that the Directorate remains dedicated to supporting young learners across the state.

The DG/Tutor-General of Badagry District V, Mr Hassan Abiodun, ably represented by Mrs J. Ockiya, in his welcome address, commended LASUDA for extending its outreach to the district. He described the initiative as both timely and impactful, stating that it provides students with valuable insights into higher education pathways and personal development.

Delivering a presentation on the University’s mandate, Assistant Director, Dr B. A. Moshood, outlined the vision and mission of Lagos State University, encouraging students to remain focused and to take advantage of opportunities that promote academic growth and self-improvement.

In her lecture titled “Distractions in the Life of a Student,” the Head of the Department of Physics, Dr Oluwafunmilayo Ometan, highlighted the adverse effects of distractions such as social media misuse and negative peer influence. She urged students to cultivate discipline, manage their time effectively and remain committed to their studies.

Dr Joseph Ayeni, speaking on “Moving Beyond the Secondary School Level,” provided practical guidance on transitioning to tertiary education. He emphasised the need for resilience, adaptability and continuous learning, noting that success beyond secondary school requires both preparation and determination.

Rounding off the sessions, Professor Simeon Dosunmu delivered an inspiring talk titled “Path to Successful Students – The Eagle Story.” Drawing lessons from the eagle’s strength and vision, he encouraged students to develop focus, courage and perseverance in the pursuit of their goals.

Schools in attendance included Ajara Grammar School, Ajara Comprehensive Senior High School, Anzarudeen Society Senior Grammar School, Methodist Senior High School, State Senior High School, and the host school, Badagry Grammar School.

The programme featured a vote of thanks delivered by the Head Girl of the host school, Peter Adeshewa, who expressed appreciation to the LASUDA team for their impactful engagement. Assistant Director, Dr K. O. Amosu, thereafter gave the closing remarks and offered prayers, bringing the event to a formal close.

The outreach programme provided a structured platform for interaction between students and academics, equipping participants with relevant knowledge and motivation to pursue higher education with purpose and clarity. LASUDA’s initiative continues to play a vital role in fostering academic excellence and guiding future leaders across Lagos State.
