ABOUT THE CENTRE FOR INFORMATION AND PUBLIC RELATIONS

The major duties of these units include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. ADMINISTRATIVE UNIT
  • Oversees the smooth running of the Centre
    Head: Mrs Oluwayemisi Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Regitrar/Coordinator, CIPR
  1. DIGITAL COMMUNICATION UNIT
    • Manages all official social media platforms of the University, such as Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok, Threads, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
    • Disseminates official information across the social media platforms.
    • Creates content that enhances the image of the University.
    • Builds followership and creates publicity for the University’s programmes.
    • Develops communication strategies for campaigns, projects, and events in the University.
    • Keeps up with the latest advancements in digital communication technologies and trends.
    • Ensures the smooth functioning, optimisation, and management of all official University digital channels.
    • Interacts and engages with the University’s publics and stakeholders.
    • Aggregates feedback from the University’s publics.
    • Creates and stores multimedia content of the University on relevant official digital platforms.
    • Tracks media coverage of the University to assess public perception and address inaccuracies or negative publicity.
    • Live-streams and provides live reports University events on relevant social media platforms, as necessary.

  1. INFORMATION AND EVENTS UNIT
    • Anchoring, coverage and reportage of University events.
    • Drafts/compiles content for bulletin stories.
    • Production and circulation of the University’s official bulletin (physical and soft copies).
    • Prepares the schedule for the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR) weekly radio programme at LASU Radio.
    • Documentation and archiving of all University events for institutional records.
    • Manages seating arrangements and labelling at events.
    • Collaborates with the Protocol Unit, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, and the University Ceremonies Committee to plan and organise relevant aspects of University events.
    • Collaborates with the Digital Communication Unit to ensure adequate dissemination of information via digital channels.
    • Sources information from invited officials and guests for proper recognition at University events.

  2. MEDIA RELATIONS UNIT
    • Anchoring, coverage and reportage of University events.
    • Builds, manages, and maintains relationships between the University and traditional media (Traditional Print, Radio, Electronic Print Media, and Television).
    • Extends invitations to journalists for coverage of University events.
    • Arranges for representatives of the University to be interviewed by the media.
    • Enhances the University’s image and reputation through strategic communication.
    • Ensures accurate and timely dissemination of information.
    • Processes University advertorials for newspaper publications.
    • Organises press conferences in collaboration with other units in the Centre.
    • Manages public statements and media responses to protect the University’s reputation during potential or real crisis situations.
    • Drafts press releases and statements.
    • Collaborates with the Digital Communication Unit to ensure consistent messaging across official digital platforms.
    • Ensures that all media communications align with the University’s values and brand.
    • Reviews newspapers for Lagos State University-related stories.
    • Creates jingles for University events.
