A 2024 graduate of the Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, Lagos State University, Mr AbdulBasit ABDULSALAM, has presented copies of his newly published book, BECOMING AGAIN, to the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola OLATUNJI-BELLO, mni, NPOM, and donated copies to the University Library as part of his contribution to the institution that played a pivotal role in his academic and personal transformation.

The presentation took place on Monday, 15th June 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Sixth Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.

Speaking during the presentation, Abdulsalam shared his remarkable journey of resilience and determination. He recounted how he initially gained admission to study Geology at the University of Lagos, but struggled academically due to lack of interest in the course. The situation worsened as distractions affected his studies, causing his cumulative grade point average to decline significantly and leading to advice that he should withdraw from the institution.

He disclosed that the experience left him emotionally devastated and struggling with suicidal thoughts. However, with support and guidance, he sought help and resolved to rebuild his life. In 2020, he gained admission to study Economics at Lagos State University, where he found renewed purpose and excelled academically.

Abdulsalam expressed appreciation to the Lagos State University Management for providing a conducive learning environment and to his lecturers for their mentorship, and support throughout his academic journey. He explained that his experiences inspired him to write the book “BECOMING AGAIN”, a book intended to encourage individuals facing setbacks to learn from their failures, embrace resilience and pursue a fresh start.

In his remarks, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni AFISI, FSPSP, M.CIoD, commended the author for sharing his experiences through writing. He noted that everyone encounters challenges at different stages of life and expressed confidence that the book would inspire many people, particularly young persons, to overcome their fears of failure and persevere in the pursuit of their goals.

He described the book as timely and relevant, noting that it would serve as a valuable source of inspiration and guidance for present and future generations.
