
Lagos State University has held a formal Handing-Over Ceremony to mark the transition from the administration of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola *OLATUNJI-BELLO*, mni, NPOM, to that of the incoming Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Olawunmi *BADEJO*, marking a significant moment in the history and continued development of the University.
The ceremony, held on *Friday, 18th September 2026*, at the Senate Chamber, brought together members of the University Management, Senate, principal officers, Deans, Directors and members of staff for the formal transfer of leadership of the University.
The transition is historic, as it marks the first time in the 43-year history of the University that a female Vice-Chancellor has handed over to another female Vice-Chancellor. It also represents one of the most peaceful transitions of leadership in the history of the University.

In her remarks, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor *OLATUNJI-BELLO*, mni, NPOM, expressed gratitude to the University community for the support and cooperation she received throughout her five-year tenure. She reflected on the achievements recorded by her administration and emphasised the importance of continuity, institutional stability and collective commitment to the advancement of the University.
She noted that the progress recorded during her tenure was the result of the collective efforts of members of the University community, acknowledging the contributions of Management, staff, students, alumni, government and other stakeholders.
The outgoing Vice-Chancellor formally handed over the affairs of the University to the incoming Vice-Chancellor, symbolising the peaceful transition of leadership and the continuity of the University’s vision, values and institutional mandate.


In her acceptance remarks, the 10th Substantive Vice-Chancellor, Professor *BADEJO*, FCASSON, FAPROCON, MNAE, expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in her and acknowledged the foundation laid by the outgoing administration. She pledged to build on the achievements recorded while pursuing initiatives that would further strengthen teaching, research, innovation, staff development, student experience and the University’s engagement with its stakeholders.
The incoming Vice-Chancellor called for the continued support and cooperation of members of the University community, stressing that the advancement of LASU remains a collective responsibility.


The Handing-Over Ceremony therefore marked not merely a change in leadership, but a historic and peaceful transition that reaffirmed LASU’s commitment to institutional continuity, excellence and sustainable development.
