LASU FACULTY OF EDUCATION SUCCESSFULLY HOLDS ITS 2ND DISTINGUISHED LECTURE…Prof. Fasan calls for continuous curriculum review‎

‎As artificial intelligence, digital technologies and evolving labour market demands continue to redefine societies across the globe, education systems that fail to adapt, risk producing graduates unprepared for the realities of the future. This concern formed the thrust of discussions at the second (2nd) edition of the Lagos State University’s Faculty of Education Distinguished Lecture, held on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026.‎‎The Dean, Faculty of Education, Professor Olugbenga Gabriel AKINDOJU, welcomed participants to the lecture series, and reaffirmed the Faculty’s commitment to advancing scholarly conversations on educational development and national transformation.‎‎In her opening remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor, Ibiyemi Ibilola OLATUNJI-BELLO mni, NPOM, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Professor Oseni Taiwo AFISI, FSPSP, FCP, M.CIoD, underscored the strategic importance of education in national development and reaffirmed Lagos State University’s commitment to promoting intellectual engagements that generate practical solutions to contemporary educational challenges.‎‎The Chairman of the occasion, Professor Samuel Oye BANDELE, emphasised the urgent need for sustained curriculum reforms capable of repositioning Nigeria’s education system to meet emerging global and national demands. He noted that stakeholders’ collaboration, policy consistency and innovation-driven leadership remain central to achieving meaningful transformation in the sector.

Speaking on the theme, “Reshaping Education in Nigeria and Securing a Better Future: The Imperatives of Curriculum Reforms and Stakeholders’ Engagement”, the Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Clement Oluseun FASAN, argued that Nigeria’s future depends on building an education system that responds effectively to technological advancement, societal change and labour market needs.‎‎Professor FASAN, identified persistent gaps in the sector, including; weak policy implementation, poor industry-academia collaboration and mismatch between graduate skills and workplace demands. ‎‎He provided practicable solutions to the identified challenges, called for continuous curriculum review, stronger stakeholders’ engagement, improved investment in teachers and infrastructure, digital integration and expanded Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to enhance employability and entrepreneurship.

Highlight of the event included: the citation and presentation of the Distinguished Lecturer,  Professor Clement Oluwaseun FASAN, by Professor Raimi Abiodun MORONFOLU, presentation of the lecture monograph to Professor FASAN by Distinguished Professor Rafiu OKUNEYE, presentation of commemorative plaques to honourees by the Vice-Chancellor’s representative, Professor Oseni Taiwo AFISI FSPSP, FCP, M.CIoD, goodwill messages from invited dignitaries, and a vote of thanks delivered by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Professor Oludare Okikiola OLUFOWOBI.‎‎The lecture reinforced the urgency of curriculum reforms and stakeholder collaboration as key drivers of educational transformation in Nigeria

‎‎The event was well-attended by dignitaries, family members and friends of the Distinguished Lecturer, Professor Clement Oluwaseun FASAN, as well as members of the University community (staff and students).‎‎We are LASU, We are Great!‎
